One of my favourite quotes of all time is from Danish ballet dancer Erik Bruhn, quite possibly the greatest dancer who ever lived.
I might spot you Nureev for power and passion, but I'm not even sure about him. Nobody else is close, that's for sure.
Anyway, Bruhn always found the American habit of saying "how are you?" quite shallow and disinterested. But his answer was the best I've heard.
"I'm the same. Only more."
That's such a sparklingly witty yet profound ideal. To always be yourself, but never as little of it as you were yesterday.
Was just reminded of this when I found a couple of YouTube clips from a Giselle perfomance with the stunningly delicate Carla Fracci.
Can I be serious for a bit? Tell me you don't 'get it', laugh at the pants, call me a ponce. I really don't care. This. Is. Friggin'. Beautiful.
If you've made it this far I'll admit that Adam isn't the greatest composer, and the choreography here is a bit boring. Ohad Naharin it ain't, unfortunately. But it's still beautiful.
